Pre and Post Care

Before your appointment:

Please come to dulcederm with clean, dry skin. Do not exfoliate within 24 hours before your service. Please do not apply lotions, oils, deodorant,  or fragrances to your skin. Please check all contraindications and inform your technician of any allergies, medications, sensitivities, or conditions prior to receiving your service. If you had any issues with your previous service, inform your technician before your current service.

After your appointment:

After your service, please keep your skin clean, cool, friction-free, product-free, and bacterial and irritation-free for at least 24 hours. When you bathe, keep the water at cooler temperatures and run it cold at the end. Dry with a fresh, clean towel. (Clean clothes, sheets, etc.) If you experience inflammation, apply a cold compress. If you have any questions or concerns, call dulcederm.

Dry Brushing:

Dry brushing is to be done on dry skin only.  Dry brushing is great for exfoliation and unclogging pores to reduce ingrown hairs, Your results will depend on consistency and other lifestyle choices.

The best time to dry brush is just before a shower where you can wash off any dead flaky skin cells. Be sure to apply lotion after your shower to retain moisture. After a few sessions of dry brushing, you'll notice you need much less lotion to cover your body. This is because you have fewer dead skin cells to waste your product on.

The bristles of our brush are plant bristles. You should expect some to fall out over time. That's normal.

Important Note:
It is very important that you do not ever brush over skin that is broken, including cuts, scrapes, lesions, and sunburns. Never brush over areas of infection, redness or general irritation, inflammation, or cellulitis. Stop dry brushing if skin becomes irritated or inflamed. We do not recommend using the brush on your neck or face.

Technique:
This should be done naked in a place where it is easy to clean up the dead skin cells. Perhaps standing in the tub without the water running. You do you. We made you a handy chart to follow. We recommend 3 strokes each section for sensitive skin and 6 for regular skin. Do not use firm pressure. Light, easy strokes. Circulation increases during this process and your skin will be a little pink, but should not be red or appear reactive. You will see results over time, this is a long game.
  1. Starting at the feet, brush upward toward the body with gentle, deliberate strokes. Brushing the entire length of each leg, working toward the upper thighs to the groin area.
  2. Migrate to the bum cheeks and back (if you can't reach, no worries. It's OK to skip it).
  3. Next to the arms, begin at the backs of the hands and work upwards to the shoulders, again using gentle, deliberate strokes.
  4. We tend to be a bit more sensitive on the abdomen and breasts, so lighter pressure here is recommended. Use feather light circular strokes here. Don't brush over nipples - it's not necessary and it will cause discomfort.
  5. Take a cool to warm (not hot) shower now to rinse off any dead flaky skin cells.
  6. Gently dry your skin with a fresh bath towel.
  7. Immediately apply lotion to retain moisture.

The whole body should take about 5 minutes. You deserve this simple luxury in your self-care routine..

Clean your brush:
Wash the bristles with a gentle soap, rinse well, and set out to dry on a flat absorbent surface, bristles down.
Alternatively, use a cloth saturated with rubbing alcohol and rub the bristles across it to clean.

About our brush:
We chose an affordable, soft-medium plant bristle brush. This brush should be cleaned on a regular basis and replaced when the bristles no longer stiff and full. We replace ours a couple times a year.
